RHS Hampton Court Palace show 2023

We were very excited to be exhibit at the 2023 RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival in July. We created a mini-garden called ‘Nature’s captivating cacophany’ for the new Sensory Pocket Planting category. We chose plants that created sound through movement in the wind, attracting wildlife and rattling seedheads, as well as creating a beautiful display. You can read more about the experience in our Hampton Court blog.

Cottage planting garden

This wrap around garden was mainly lawn, and as the clients were keen gardeners, large borders have been included in the curvilinear scheme, filled with cottage style plants suitable for the clay soil. An elliptical gravel seating area was also added, with a series of oak arches covered in climbing roses along the approaching path. A small vegetable area has been extended with more raised beds, a greenhouse and a series of compost bins. Around the back of the house where the aspect is more shady, a more woodland inspired planting scheme has been utilised, with plants like birch trees and ferns. Photos show the garden newly built and planted - over time the borders will fill out and create gentle screening between the different areas of the garden.

The height of the arches and trees were an essential element of this project, read more about this in our why height is important in your garden blog.

Oak tree garden

Viewed from the modern house through floor to ceiling windows, much of this garden sits under the canopy of a large oak tree, with a view out over the fields that back onto the garden. This design retains some of the existing lawn but adds additional seating areas enveloped in airy planting, helping to provide some privacy from people walking through the field without blocking the view. A compost area is hidden from view with screens covered in climbers and a raised vegetable bed is sited within easy reach of the house and BBQ area. Wildlife has been catered for with water filled troughs, pollinator-friendly planting and bird feeders.

Bristol city garden

With children growing up, it was time to upgrade this mainly lawn garden to somewherer the family could relax and entertain. Multiple seating areas allow the sunlight to be enjoyed at different times of day and the pergolas add height without creating too much additional shade. The planting for this garden will have a ‘jungle’ edge, with plenty of large-leaved plants and lush foliage.

Small London front garden

A very small and shaded back yard meant that the owner of this London terrace was keen to make the most of the front garden which caught the evening sun. A multistemmed amelanchier provides a beautiful screen from the street, but still allows light to reach the bench seating area, and necessary practical structures like the bin store and small outbuilding have been made more attractive with a green roof and colourful pots.
