Plant lovers garden

Malvern

The brief

This garden on the edge of the Malvern hills was one big lawn that wrapped around the house. The clients wanted to make the most of the large area at the front, which was well shielded from the road, by adding a seating area. They are also keen gardeners and wanted lots of space devoted to planting.

The design

Large borders have been included in the curvilinear scheme, filled with cottage style plants suitable for the clay soil. An elliptical gravel seating area is set within the planting, creating a lush, calming environment to relax and enjoy the garden. The winding path accessing the seating area is lined with a series of oak arches covered in climbing plants.

Standout feature

The bespoke oak arches were the real investment piece in this garden. Made by a local crafstman, they have weathered in beautifully. The height of the arches and trees were an essential element of this project, find out why in our why height is important in your garden blog.
